Welcome

Light the Village provides an affordable, sustainable solar light system for subsistence farm families in their one-room homes in the western mountains of Guatemala. This initiative allows you to contribute to a complete solution project, and receive a charitable donation receipt.

There are thousands of village homes in the Department of Huehuetenango with no power network, and the cost of bringing in a system of wires and poles would be prohibitive, not to mention the ongoing costs of electric power service.

In addition, the project helps the villagers to become a little more self-sufficient and provides job opportunities for a few.

The light system uses LED lights requiring little power, so that the solar panel and battery are small, and the cost is about $200USD per unit, half paid by the villagers and the balance raised through donations.
